When to Buy Your Bridal Gown

When to Buy Your Bridal Gown

Congratulations on your engagement! At Village Bridal, we understand that you are likely more than ready to find the wedding dress of your dreams right away. Luckily for you, it’s never too early to start your search, but you may be surprised at just how much time you should expect this process to take. We’ve created a timeline to help guide you through:

First Things First

Before you even step foot inside a bridal boutique, we recommend that you decide on two major factors of your wedding first: the venue and the date. Considering the endless amount of different wedding dresses available, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Knowing your venue and date will create a picture in your head of the setting you will be wearing your dress in, which can help narrow down your options right away.

About a Year In Advance

10-12 months before your wedding, start booking your bridal appointments. This may sound like much longer than necessary, but wedding dress shopping doesn’t go by as quickly as any other shopping experience. First, you will look through dozens, if not hundreds, of different styles, and then need to wait several months for your designer to sew your dress and have it shipped to our boutique. Plan to allot enough breathing room for any unexpected hiccups, delays in production times, or slowed shipping speeds, to avoid a last-minute panic.

2-3 Months Before Your Wedding

Once we receive your dress, it’s time for alterations! Alterations are the final step in getting your gown ready to walk down the aisle, and you should expect them to take about 6-8 weeks. During this time, you will have a few fitting appointments with a professional bridal seamstress to address any adjustments you wish to make to your gown. This process is crucial to ensuring your wedding dress fits flawlessly!
